[the hallways are a little muggy; how long could you last? is something he doesn't ask aloud, but does manage to ask with an awkward shift of weight upon his feet and scrunched-up facial expression. because when in doubt (and when not a roaming winter spirit - no offense meant, Jack), use body language.]
[his expression smooths out fairly quickly, however, and then he's stepping fully into the room, breath puffing out in a thin cloud.]
Wouldn't get too cold, nah. You didn't cool this place off that much.
[as he stands there in an overcoat, shirt and patched trousers. you know. whatever.]
But if you've slept enough and feel like getting out and roaming, sure-- right after I ask you what I came to ask, yes, let's. The reason you had thirteen messages was because [- a sniff (he'd been concerned) -] it's a very important question, and has to do with [- quick backwards kick, hopefully shutting the container door -] bothering our lovely beneficiary, the Project Head.
Want to hear more?
[... that Jack would, the Doctor knew perfectly well. asking him felt like trapping him in it, but -- beggars couldn't be choosers, and the Time Lord had definitely become a beggar.]
[Overcoat, shirt, and patched trousers. Yes. That's sure to earn a bit of a frown and an arching of eyebrows, regardless that the Doctor couldn't see either.]
itd be too cold for most people you stand around in freezers a lot ?
[HE DOESN'T WANT YOU CATCHING ILL OUT OF STUBBORNNESS GOOD SIR he's going to be keeping an eye on you...! And at the slightest sign of a chill gone too deep he'll--well, he'll find some way to make you step out of here, if he has to.]
[But in the meantime he'll give the Doctor the slightest benefit of the doubt instead of pursuing that further. ...If only because that second part quite thoroughly drives all that to the side very abruptly.]
[He stills, straightens somewhat; almost automatically, the already-chilly air drops another couple of degrees just from the mention of the Project Head alone, though Jack's quick to reign that in quickly. And yet...]
[He gives the Doctor a long look.]
mr water kelpie bothering him huh ?
[Trapping him in it, maybe, but--Jack would be lying if he said he wasn't perking up at that mere mention alone, really. It speaks of an offer, and opportunity...a chance to do something--]
[Sitting still hasn't suited him well, and he realizes that fully now, with the wave of restless interest that sweeps up even at such a vague offer as this.]
maybe i do , yeah go on

[unfortunately, he'd give no greater explanation at that very moment than --]
All the time. Big fan of freezers, me. Especially-- aha- deep freezers. Like this. You're very attuned to the weather, aren't you.
[half-laughing, but not out of nervousness; and of course it wasn't an actual question - obviously the weather had tied itself to Jack, or visce versa - but it did follow another quick scope of the inside of the container, keen eyes taking in lengthening crystals, breath crisp and cloudy.]
[he checked the compass almost absent-mindedly, so taken was he with the chill (it was nice, after the heat of outside). perhaps infuriatingly, his tone reflected that distraction, despite the topic.]
We need to find his weaknesses. That's what we did before, you know. Admittedly, what you see is actually what you get - he's made out of water; his "bubbles" are poppable; I'm not sure if freezing him would turn him into a deathsicle or a murder-machine-with-ice.
... Which is, really, what I'd hoped you could check...
[Doctor, your mixed signals, honestly...surely this must be important if it's involving the Project Head of all people, why are you being so--? Jack frowns some more at the Doctor's decidedly lackluster explanation as far as the cold was concerned (that's not exactly reassuring at all, it really isn't), but addressing that falls to the wayside once again in favor of what the man does have to say, concerning the more pressing topic at hand here. Absent-minded or no, Jack blinks as the words are carefully taken in.]
[There's a bit of a pause as he considers it. (Poppable bubbles...)]
like with the puddles of water
[beat--oh, right, he should clarify--]
the living ones i mean that were everywhere a couple of weeks ago ? kinda reminds me of those actually , now that you mention it
they didnt like ice that much at all let me tell you
[and there's a vindictive sort of satisfaction there, possibly notable even though text. but that aside...]
and you wanna see if its the same with the project head huh ?
im guessing im not the only one thats going to be checking
Exactly like them. The last Project Head had tar babies; this one has water sprites. The tar burned the same as the Project Head - the water will follow the same rules, I imagine.
[... in fact.]
Just as I'd thought. Stupendous. I love it when things go as I thought.
[-- not a declaration to ever be used as a rule, but there you had it. the Doctor spun on his heel; three-hundred-sixty degrees later, he stopped, beamed once more in the wrong direction, and continued with absolute excitement. whatever his earlier distraction had been, it had fully disappeared.]
You'll be one of the few - no, no, I think you're the only one - with ice, but you won't be the only one bothering the pipsqueak, no.
[A mildly amused observation, watching the Doctor as the man went about his...particularly unique reaction. (He seems to have a thing for spinning around a lot, as a peripheral edge of thought has started to notice over their handful of encounters with each other...) Sighing a bit when the Doctor then promptly beams at the wrong direction...again....Jack shifts a bit in place, idly knocks off a particularly thick protrusion of ice from the wall beside him with his staff to maybe give the Doctor a kind hint insofar as location's concerned.]
[But the excitement on his part helps, somehow--takes the serious edge off things, in a way--moves the prospect of confronting the Project Head from somewhat daunting to...well, daunting with a splash of challenging, and possibility for a small plethora of things. Hints and thoughts skipping ahead, but Jack finds himself latching firmly onto that anyway despite himself, because--]
[Because it's a goal, as he realizes slightly belatedly at last--shaking off the weight of sleep in favor of active attention more and more as he goes--it's a goal, it's a chance, and those are both things he hadn't even realized he'd been looking for. Thinking about, over the last couple of weeks.]
[Things had just been so hectic and impossible lately, but now--]
pipsqueak i like that can we call him that from now on ? it has a really nice ring to it
[Oh, but in all seriousness, though...]
im the only one with ice though , really ? i didnt think i mean , there seems to be a lot of diffrent kinds of magic around here , just seems kind of surprising
but what do the other guys have if they dont have ice ?
