[la dee da what you asked a question WELL,]

Is that a euphemism for dead, because if it is I'm plenty old enough to talk about death

[absent-minded texting. who'd thought it could be done.]

[a good thing it could be done, really: he'd never have garnered so much from Jack otherwise. tooths? was that someone who'd arrived at Rapture-- or maybe that woman who'd gone on about teeth a number of weeks ago? come to think of it, he never had spotted her after that; strange, given they were supposed to talk -]

[- still summer -]
Yes it is. Humid and hot and sunny every day and every night. [- well, alright, Jack was obviously a cold "spirit" (yes, the Doctor had grievances on using that word), it made sense, but sleeping for three days?]

[... and more importantly,]

Out there, what's that supposed to mean? Where'd you hold yourself up?

[-- finally, as the Doctor set out to actively search, his typing improved. all it meant was his thoughts had turned to matters outside the compass, though. in this case - to find Jack. find a cold spot, find the spirit; that's how it always worked, wasn't it?]
overeducated: (Oh look it's the crazy man.)

This is an icebox. You're made a literal icebox. Can I bring down some goods that hadn't fit in the kitchen's freezer?

[this, after three minutes of radio silence on the compass. if the door hadn't been locked, the Doctor would have cracked it open and stuck his head through (possibly breaking off flecks of frost on the hinges), bangs plastered to his forehead- it was warm, even Time Lords couldn't escape that-- and eyes wide as saucers while taking in the inside of the container.]

[a container that he really should've noticed before. had he been blind?]

[... no, but he had been busy. still. no excuse. the whole thing was sort of... something...]

So you're still here. [-- a quick mutter, followed by an even quicker (if more empathetic) grin.]

[and, indeed, he's still oblivious to Jack's presence; the comment on knocking (which would have been waved off, anyway) goes unacknowledged, as well as, well. Jack, himself. the compass texts, at least, do continue to work, and the Doctor checks it with a swiftly angled wrist.]

[he stares for a moment - was that slight disappointment? - but then, eyes flashing back up, tone wheedling in the way only a nine-year-old's could be,]

... Depends. [throat clears.] Where are you going?
overeducated: (One moment if you would.)

[the hallways are a little muggy; how long could you last? is something he doesn't ask aloud, but does manage to ask with an awkward shift of weight upon his feet and scrunched-up facial expression. because when in doubt (and when not a roaming winter spirit - no offense meant, Jack), use body language.]

[his expression smooths out fairly quickly, however, and then he's stepping fully into the room, breath puffing out in a thin cloud.]

Wouldn't get too cold, nah. You didn't cool this place off that much.

[as he stands there in an overcoat, shirt and patched trousers. you know. whatever.]

But if you've slept enough and feel like getting out and roaming, sure-- right after I ask you what I came to ask, yes, let's. The reason you had thirteen messages was because [- a sniff (he'd been concerned) -] it's a very important question, and has to do with [- quick backwards kick, hopefully shutting the container door -] bothering our lovely beneficiary, the Project Head.

Want to hear more?

[... that Jack would, the Doctor knew perfectly well. asking him felt like trapping him in it, but -- beggars couldn't be choosers, and the Time Lord had definitely become a beggar.]

[unfortunately, he'd give no greater explanation at that very moment than --]

All the time. Big fan of freezers, me. Especially-- aha- deep freezers. Like this. You're very attuned to the weather, aren't you.

[half-laughing, but not out of nervousness; and of course it wasn't an actual question - obviously the weather had tied itself to Jack, or visce versa - but it did follow another quick scope of the inside of the container, keen eyes taking in lengthening crystals, breath crisp and cloudy.]

[he checked the compass almost absent-mindedly, so taken was he with the chill (it was nice, after the heat of outside). perhaps infuriatingly, his tone reflected that distraction, despite the topic.]

We need to find his weaknesses. That's what we did before, you know. Admittedly, what you see is actually what you get - he's made out of water; his "bubbles" are poppable; I'm not sure if freezing him would turn him into a deathsicle or a murder-machine-with-ice.

... Which is, really, what I'd hoped you could check...

Exactly like them. The last Project Head had tar babies; this one has water sprites. The tar burned the same as the Project Head - the water will follow the same rules, I imagine.

[... in fact.]

Just as I'd thought. Stupendous. I love it when things go as I thought.

[-- not a declaration to ever be used as a rule, but there you had it. the Doctor spun on his heel; three-hundred-sixty degrees later, he stopped, beamed once more in the wrong direction, and continued with absolute excitement. whatever his earlier distraction had been, it had fully disappeared.]

You'll be one of the few - no, no, I think you're the only one - with ice, but you won't be the only one bothering the pipsqueak, no.
